My most “favoritist” live vocal mic ever…Heil PR35 baby! » The Gigging Musician

Oh yes, I do love me some Heil PR35 action on the old vocals. I’ve used plenty of vocal mics over the years and while they all get the job done to one level or another, the Heil just takes it to a whole `nother level. So smooth and crisp it just makes me all warm inside to hear my vocals coming through that mic…plus I get to put on the “I know something you don’t know” hat when I run into the occasional sound guy who hasn’t yet found out about Heil….something about me just loves that….yeah, it’s probably a character flaw, but whatever, it’s still fun to one up a sound guy.

If you’re a sucker for a great sounding mic like I am, you should definitely check out the Heil PR35.

  1. Yeah, we were turned on to the Heil PR 35 last year at a State fair show. Poll Sound put one in front of Artie and we were amazed! We threw rocks at the trusty ol. Beta 87 after that.

  2. Hey Dave, glad to get another opinion on this mic. We just moved to all wireless mics and I was a little bummed cause I missed my trusty Heil. But then I remembered when we worked with .38 Special this summer that they had taken the Heil capsules and screwed them onto the wireless mic bodies. That's exactly what I plan on doing. In fact Heil is making a capsule for the PR 35 specifically for mounting to the wireless mic bodies…nice!!

  3. I know these comments are bit old, but I would really like to know how the Heil PR35′s are working for you guys. I am a female in search of a good mic with a lot of feedback rejection. I have been stalking the Heil now for quite some time. It’s very hard to find feedback *no pun intended* on this microphone because it’s not as popular as Shure and the other leading mic brands. Not too interested in getting the mic capsule because I don’t have a wireless mic, just want to hear about the experiences with it.

    • I absolutely love my PR35, my favorite live vocal mic by far. I’ve never had it cause feedback (but then again we don’t use many monitors on stage, as we’re mostly use in ear monitors). The PR35 works great for my voice, which is lower register male. I’ve heard that a lot of people love the PR22 as well as an all around good vocal mic. It’s also a little less expensive than the PR35.

      • I’m not so worried about the price. I ordered one already and it came yesterday, it’s a monster compared to my other mics. I am wondering if it will work just as well for higher registers as I am a soprano, but I sing in a mezzo soprano/alto register when I sing for my band. I have never used a mic with a bass roll off before. It’s a shame there really aren’t that many reviews on this mic, I suppose Shure still has everyone brainwashed.
